NOC JETS 70  Carl Albert 63

 

NOC Jets improved to 7-1 and 1-0 in Region II play after defeating Carl Albert 70-63.  6'5 Fr Spencer Smith led the Jets in scoring with 17 points while going 3-3 from three and 6-6 from the free throw line.  Ben Smith recorded his sixth double double on the season.  Ben scored 14 points and had 14 rebounds.  Christian Simmons got the jets off to a great start scoring the first 8 points of the game.  The Jets will be at NEO on Monday November 23rd 2009 at 8:00. 

 

 NJCAA Pre-Season All-American 2nd Team

Sophomore Ben Smith has been named to the NJCAA Pre-Season All-American 2nd team.  As a freshmen Smith helped lead the Jets to 25 wins, the Region II Finals and the Bi-State West Conference Championship.  In his freshmen season Ben set the new single season scoring record with 672 points and he also set the new single season rebound record with 386.   Smith's Points avg was 20.4 while shooting 60.7% and 11.7 rebounds.

Coaches

Head Coach: Greg Shamburg

Northern Oklahoma College – Enid Head Coach Greg Shamburg enters his 20th season of coaching with a combined record of 394 – 245.  Coach Shamburg begins his 9th season in Enid where he started the program and in his first season led the Jets to the semifinals of the Region 2 Tournament. 

Coach Shamburg began his coaching career at Northern Oklahoma College – Tonkawa where he helped the Mavericks win 3 Conference Championships, 1993-94, 1997-98, 1999-00, two Region 2 Tournament Championships, and a school record 28 win season.

In 2004 and 2005 Coach Shamburg joined Head Coach Brian Gates and The Oklahoma Storm of the United States Basketball League.  The Storm won two Midwestern Conference Championships and averaged 24 wins a year with local college products including Joe Atkins, Terrance Crawford, Daniel Bobick, Aaron Pettway of Oklahoma State, Quanas White and Ebi Era of Oklahoma, Eric Coley of Tulsa, and Mario Woodson of Northwestern Oklahoma.  In 2005 Coach Shamburg was named the Assistant Coach of the Year for the USBL.  In 2007-2008 the Jets made the Region II finals for the first time in school history and posted a record of 19-13.  The Jets returned to the Region II finals in 2008-2009 along with winning the BI-State West Conference and posting a record of 25-8.  Shamburg was named Region II Co-Coach of the year for the 2008-2009 season. Greg and his wife Kathi have two children Addi (14) and Foster (10).

 

Assistant Coach: Brian Humphries

Brian Humphries is in his fifth season at Northern Oklahoma College as the assistant men’s basketball coach.  In the inaugural season of the Jets as a student assistant, 2001-2002, Humphries helped lead the team to a 17-14 record, and the semifinals of the Region 2 tournament.  Upon leaving Northern Oklahoma College Humphries took the position of graduate assistant men’s basketball coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State University.  While at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Humphries helped lead NWOSU to a top twenty-five ranking and tying for third in the 2004-2005 season. Humphries graduated from Northwestern Oklahoma State holding a Masters degree in Secondary Education Administration in 2005-2006.  Humphries returned to NOC in 2006-2007 in late July as the assistant coach.  In the 2007-2008 Season Coach Humphries helped lead the Jets to their first finals appearance in the Region 2 tournament, along with a school record of 19 wins.  In the 2008-2009 season the Jets again improved their school record in wins to 25.  The Jets won the Bi-State West Conference going 9-1 in the league.  The Jets also returned to the Region 2 Finals but were unable to win the tournament and finished 25-8 and Region 2 Runner-Ups.  Brian and his wife Alexa are excited to be in Enid and look forward to the future with Northern Oklahoma College

Runnels Named MVC's MBB Newcomer of the Week

Former JET Named MVCC Newcomer of the Week
OMAHA, Neb. --  Creighton men’s basketball junior Wayne Runnels has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week.

A forward from Watonga, Okla., Runnels had 16 points, nine rebounds and two assists in 21 minutes off the bench at No. 21 Dayton. He made 6-of-7 shots from the floor and 4-of-6 attempts at the line. Twelve of his points came in the first half as Creighton built a 10-point first half edge.

His 16 points were by most in a Creighton debut since P’Allen Stinnett in 2007 and his nine rebounds were the most in a Creighton debut since Nick Porter in 2005.
