2016 Mavs Soccer Team

Northern Tops Rose State 2-1

The Mavericks topped Rose State College 2-1 on a perfect day for soccer in Tonkawa.  Northern outshot Rose in the first half eleven to six, but despite some great chances could not find the back of the net.  That would change in the first minute of the second half.  Chase Venable crossed the ball into the box and a Rose State defender trapped the ball, but Reece Harrison beat him to the next touch and scored.  The Raiders would even the score on a free kick that was kicked in by Dillon Loftis.  The Mavericks would regain the lead minutes later on a free kick of their own.  Rojay Smith blasted in the free kick off the far post with ten minutes left in the game.  Northern held on for the 2-1 win.  The Mavs would like to dedicate the win to a long time Mavericks soccer fan and supporter as he battles cancer.  Our thoughts are with you Doc.  Get well.
