Lillian Prince, Megan Jones, and Celeste Smith were named to the 2010-11 All Conference and All Region II Teams as voted on by the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference coaches.
Lillian Prince, a sophomore from Putnam City High School in Oklahoma City, has been named First Team All Conference and First Team All Region II. Lillian leads the team in points, rebounds, steals, and field goal percentage. Her rebound average of 13.9 per game currently leads the nation. Lillian also ranks 16th nationally in scoring 19.7 points per game, and 33rd nationally in steals with 3.1 per game. During a regular season game at Carl Albert, Lillian broke the previous school record of 24 rebounds in a single game when she collected 26 rebounds. The previous record was held by Lydia Murray of Stillwater and has stood since the 1982-83 season.
In both her freshman and sophomore seasons Lillian has averaged a “double-double” in points and rebounds. At the end of this season she will also hold the school record for most rebounds in a single season.
Being one of the top vote getters in Region II, Lillian is assured of an automatic NJCAA All American nomination. That team will be announced later this spring.
“Lillian works as hard as anyone I’ve coached. Her physical strength, her emotion, and her heart are great attributes for her. Her leadership by example is a tremendous asset to our team.” – Coach Krause
Megan Jones, a freshman from Stroud High School (OK), has been named Third Team All Conference and Third Team All Region II. Megan is currently the team’s second leading scorer at 14.6 points per game. She also is averaging 4.2 rebounds per game, 3.1 assists per game, and 1.7 steals per game. Megan is shooting 86% from the free throw line which is good for seventh in the nation. She was also named the recipient of the Leo Canaday Award, a memorial scholarship award that goes to an NOC freshman based on academic and athletic quality.
“Megan is having an outstanding season, especially considering this is her first year of college basketball. She does an outstanding job of getting to the free throw line. She is a threat from the three point line too, which makes her hard to cover defensively. This year Megan has also filled in as a point guard and has handled that role very well. She has a bright future.” – Coach Krause
Celeste Smith, a sophomore from Lysterfield, Melbourne, Australia, has been named Honorable Mention All Conference and All Region II. Celeste is currently averaging 10.3 points per game, 5.5 rebounds per game, and is shooting 83% from the free throw line, which ranks her 20th in the nation.
“Celeste was voted one of our team captains and is an outstanding leader of our team. She gets a lot of hustle points and loose balls. Her size and shooting ability has been a boost for us from the perimeter. Celeste is also capable of giving us help in the post. She will move on and continue to play after Northern. We’ll miss her presence on our team. “– Coach Krause
